Personal Interests

Social Change
I feel strongly that the human race needs to make some fundamental changes in the way it views itself in relationship to the rest of the Earth and each other in order to survive. As technological change accelerates, we need a parallel acceleration of social change or we may not use our new technologies in ways that benefit the health of our planet. I believe that our planet is like a baby which does not yet have self awareness: we can still strike ourselves in the face with our own hand and think someone else is to blame. Our planet is a single, complex life-form, but most individual humans still think of themselves as separate.
Cooperative Sports
For several years now I have messed around with inventing and trying cooperative rules to existing competitive sports. Now I am making it my business to promote the idea through my new company, Cooperation in Sports.
Super Blue Green Algae
David and his wife have been eating this stuff, which is a product of Cell Tech, since the the first week of June, 1996. As of this writing (July, 12) David finds that he has more energy, even though he needs less sleep (about an hour less per night). Cathy feels that she is more content.
Computer Programming
Since the early 1980s I have been a professional computer programmer. I am currently working for Dartmouth College, doing Web based database programming using Oracle and PHP3. For a current version of my resume, please send me an e-mail request or just call me on the phone!
Storytelling
Storytelling is a great way to use your imagination and communicate what you care about. I got into storytelling in a more serious way in 1996, when I took a weekend long course with Odds Bodkins (which was great). Now I love to play "story game" with my two children, where we each take a turn telling part of the story (unless they decide they really just want me to tell the whole thing, but I still make it up as I go).
Parenting
We have two children. Our daughter Anna was born in October of 1993 and our daughter Rose was born in May, 1996. My wife and I practice "attachment style" parenting, the "family bed", extended nursing (for our culture, which means our two year old is still nursing some). We believe that it is important for children to have their mother available to them in their preschool years, so my wife is currently a "stay at home, full-time, Mom".
Boardsailing
Boardsailing is fast and exciting and it is a great way to commune with nature and the incredible force of the sea. Back in the late 1970s and early 80s David participated in lots of Windsurfer™ and other Boardsailing Competitions, was the best in New England for several years and competed at the World Class Level. Now he is lucky if he gets out a few times a year when he is visiting his old summer home on Cape Cod, which his father still owns.

Hot Lists

Here are some sites that I am interested in keeping up with from time to time. I wrote an off-line reader program called Global Link to work on the IGC networks, host to the EcoNet and PeaceNet before they got involved in the Web.

My sister Jennifer is a Graphic artist that does Web and other publishing work.

Miscellaneous sites and stuff I like

One of the new products that I like a lot is the Pilot PIM.
