Basic Information

Date of Birth: March 8, 1957

Place of Birth: Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Self Employed Computer Programming Contractor I do lots of work with my sister Jennifer Kano and her Webworks Design efforts.

Personal Interests

UnitrainerTM Balance Cycle
I've been working on a new invention that helps people learn to ride the unicycle much more quickly than with traditional methods.
Reiki
In 1999 my sister Jennifer introduced me to Reiki, an ancient hands-on energy healing technique. By 2000, I was trained to be a Reiki Master / Teacher.
Cooperative Sports
For several years now I have messed around with inventing and trying cooperative rules to existing competitive sports. I have a web site to promote the idea: Cooperative Sports.
Computer Programming
Since the early 1980s I have been a professional computer programmer. I am currently working as an independent contractor, with lots of experience using PHP. I worked at Dartmouth College Library for 7+ years and used PHP and Oracle to build Web applications. Now I do contract analysis and programming with WebWorks Design which was founded by my sister Jennifer.
Storytelling
Storytelling is a great way to use your imagination and communicate what you care about. I got into storytelling in a more serious way in 1996, when I took a weekend long course with Odds Bodkins (which was great). Now I love to play "story game" with my two children, where we each take a turn telling part of the story (unless they decide they really just want me to tell the whole thing, but I still make it up as I go).
Parenting
I have two children. I am divorced and co-parent with my ex-wife Cathy, who has her own quilt making business. Our kids are with each of us half of the time. My daughter Anna was born in October of 1993 and my daughter Rose was born in May, 1996. Cathy and I practice "attachment style" parenting, the "family bed", extended nursing, etc.
Kayaking
In 2001 I finally got into white water kayaking, something I had thought about off and on for many years. It looks like water running down rapids is more often available than good (strong) wind for boardsailing!
Boardsailing & Sailing
Boardsailing is fast and exciting and it is a great way to commune with nature and the incredible force of the sea. Back in the late 1970s and early 80s David participated in lots of Windsurfer and other Boardsailing Competitions, was the best in New England for several years and competed at the World Class Level. Now he is lucky if he gets out a few times a year when he is visiting his old summer home on Cape Cod, which his father still owns. David nows spends much more time sailing than boardsailing. He is a member of the Shaker Village Sailing Club on Mascoma Lake, which is a great place for a sail, cook out or swim. It is located only 15 minute drive from his home, so he can even go for a sail after work during the week! For the summer of 2007 David will be teaching sailing at the Cataumet Club day camp for children.
